2 Scope of the visit and of the workshops Why Italy? – It is well known for problems related to length of proceedings But: – There are a lot of competences on such problems and other fundamental aspects of the justice service provision – Provide examples on how such problems can be tackled 2

3 Scope of the visit and of the workshops The visit itself is structured in two moments: – Three workshops which will discuss the main challenges Judiciaries around the world are facing and possible solutions which have been adopted – A visit to a Court which, starting form the same normative, procedural and caseload conditions of many others, has managed to make the difference 3

4 The current challenges of judicial administration – Efficiency, effectiveness, timelines – Performance evaluation (judges, courts, justice service) – Access to justice, fair treatment, quality of decisions, enforcement of decision – Accountability and transparency 4

5 The workshops topics Jordan piloting courts The presentation of the three Jordanian piloting courts will help gaining a common understanding of the Jordanian courts specific features and needs Case Management and Performance Evaluation Providing an introduction to: Court management ideas and techniques, from its origin as a discipline in the eighties to the Cepej innovative contributions. Individual and court performance evaluation from legal, managerial and public perspectives 5

6 The workshops topics Time management An introduction to the concept of time management and SATURN Guidelines for Judicial Time Management, including a reference to CEPEJ key case flow indicators and some examples from the Turin First Instance Court Court User Satisfaction An introduction to the concept of court user satisfaction and to its measurement in theory and through practical examples 6

7 The workshops style The idea is to have initial presentations to be followed by open discussion in order to create a fruitful exchange between experts and Jordanian Justice Delegation. If needed, though, questions are welcome also during initial presentations in order to immediately clarify or ask for more details on specific points. 7

8 The Turin field trip Turin’s First Instance Court Strasbourg programme Presentation of the measures adopted in Turin First Instance Court (“Strasbourg Programme”) along the lines of “Saturn Guidelines For Judicial Time Management”, including the Court’s decalogue Customer Satisfaction Survey in Turin Courts Presentation of the customer satisfaction survey carried out within the cooperative activities that the Turin First Instance Court carries out in its capacity as a member of the Pilot Courts Network of the CEPEJ 8
