The Private Victory Before you will ever win in the public arenas of life, you must first win private battles within yourself. All change begins with YOU.
2
“MAN IN THE MIRROR” I’M STARTING WITH THE MAN IN THE MIRROR. I’M ASKING HIM TO CHANGE HIS WAYS AND NO MESSAGE COULD HAVE BEEN ANY CLEARER IF YOU WANNA MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE TAKE A LOOK AT YOURSELF, AND THEN MAKE A CHANGE. By Siedah Garrett and Glen Ballard
3
We crawl before we walk… We learn arithmetic before algebra We sink before we swim We must fix ourselves before we can fix others. If you want to make a change in your life, the place to begin is with yourself, not your parents, or your bf or gf, or your teacher. All change begins with you. It’s inside out. Not outside in.
4
When I was young and free and my Imagination had no limits, I dreamed of Changing the world; As I grew older and wiser I realized the World would not change. And I decided to shorten my sights Somewhat and change only my country. But it too seemed immovable. As I entered my twilight years, in one last Desperate attempt, I sought to change Only my family, those closest to me, but Alas they would have not of it.
5
And now here I lie on my death bed and Realize (perhaps for the first time) that if Only I’d changed myself first, then by example I may have influenced my Family and with their encouragement And support I may have bettered my Country, and who knows, I may have Changed the world. An Anglican Bishop
6
The real tragedy is the tragedy of the man who never in his life braces himself for his one supreme effort…he never stretches to his full capacity, never stands up to his full stature. Arnold Bennet
7
This is what the 7 Habits is all about. Changing from the inside out, starting with the boy or girl in the mirror.

Your Personal Bank Account How you feel about yourself is like a bank account. Just like a checking or savings account at a bank, you can make deposits into and take withdrawals from your personal bank account. Ex: When I keep a promise to myself, I feel in control and add to my PBA. When I break a promise to myself, I feel disappointed and make a withdrawal.
9
Possible Symptoms of a Poor PBA You cave to peer pressure easily. You wrestle with feelings of depression & inferiority. You’re overly concerned about what others think of you. You act arrogant to help hide your insecurities. You self-destruct by getting heavily into drugs, vandalism or gangs. You get jealous easily, especially when someone close to you succeeds.
10
Possible Symptoms of a healthy PBA You stand up for yourself and resist peer pressure You’re not overly concerned about being popular You see life as a generally positive experience. You trust yourself. You are goal driven. You are happy for the successes of others.
11
Small deposits over a long period of time is the way to a healthy and rich Personal Bank Account. With every deposit there is an equal and opposite withdrawal…
12
PBA Deposits PBA Withdrawals Keep promises to yourself Break personal promises Do small acts of kindness Keep to yourself Be gentle with yourself Beat yourself up Be honest Be dishonest Renew yourself Wear yourself out Tap into your talents Neglect your talents
13
Let’s clarify a few things… Treat commitments you make to yourself as seriously as those we make to the most important people in your life. If you ever feel depressed, the best thing to do is to do something for someone else. It gets you focused outward, not inward. It’s hard to be depressed while serving others.
14
Be gentle with yourself… Don’t expect yourself to be perfect by tomorrow morning. Be patient and give yourself time to grow. Learn to laugh at the stupid things you do. Forgive yourself Truly learn to love yourself
15
Renew yourself… Take time for yourself Where do you go or what do you do to renew yourself? Movie: The Secret Garden
16
Tap into your talents… There are stories after stories of people who turned their talents into multi-million dollar businesses. “If you do what you love, you will never work a day in your life.”
17
COMING ATTRACTIONS The many ways in which you and your dog are different.
