An accused person may choose to be tried by a judge rather than a jury.

Prosecution: in a criminal case, the side that brings the case against a person accused of committing a crime.

Cross-examination: the questioning of a witness in court. Hung jury: when a jury cannot reach a unanimous opinion or clear majority on a case. The case will be tried again with a new jury.

Technicality: In a court case, a small loophole in the legal system (e.g. evidence obtained without a search warrant) that causes the trial to be stopped and the defendant to be set free.
