The Encarnacao Alliance............recommends a strategy for training workers among the urban poor Extending the Kingdom of God among the Urban Poor Today and Tomorrow

Resolved at the Encarnacao Alliance Consultation...July,04 The member organisations would commit themselves to mobilize 50,000 new workers among the urban poor by 2010.

Goals of the Alliance The vision leads to four principal goals Synergy through cooperation Sharing of training expertise Mobilising new workers Facilitating resources for the vision

How Did We Get Here? Servant communities among the urban poor was pioneered 25 years ago in Manila Out of this pioneering came many organisations in over 40 cities, that have developed informal networks over the last 20 years. The Encarnacao Network was birthed in 2002 in a gathering of urban poor movement leaders in Brazil to share ideas, resources, and training in mobilizing indigenous and cross-cultural workers In Bangkok in 2004, this was extended to a more formal Encarnacao Alliance with a vision to mobilise 50,000 new workers among the urban poor by 2010.

Commitment to be a trainer Sign an agreement with the in-city Training Director. Set aside 5-10 hours per week to recruit and train 5-30 churchplanters/deacons in groups of 6-10 over the next three years. Train these workers over the next three years so many of them can become recruiters /facilitators/and trainers too.

Continued……………………….. Plan to commence training in 3 months time after recruiting 6-10 new workers. Expect to recruit another 6-10 workers every year. Evaluate your progress every three months together with other facilitators in your city. Provide coaching for 5-20 workers over the next three years.

Continued………………………….. Stay in relationship with your local Training Director for the next 3 years. Do this thru’ meeting together with your trainees every three months for a day. Report on your progress and the progress of your workers.

Study to prepare yourself to be a “Facilitator”… Use the Urban Church Planting CD and books each week to study selected aspects of church planting in the slum context. Set aside 5 hours each week for this study program.

Study continued………………… Study the Encarnacao Alliance Urban Training Commission Course Development Manual in Urban Leadership Become familiar with the selection and assessment method sections especially Make recommendations and suggestions on how to improve this manual according to your experience

Prepare your year planner during the next three weeks… Make a plan for your next years activities as a “Facilitator” In your next 90 days plan a list of your potential recruits, how to meet with them and invite them to be trained, pray for them, your study plan, resources plan, and implementation plan.

Citywide training days…. Select a day every two months to meet together as urban poor leaders from across your city. Bring your recruits to these training days ready to put on a drama of what they have leaned about urban poor ministry in the last three months.

A suggested program for the 2 monthly training day Open with praise and worship and prayer for the city A specialist expert speaker/s on 1 or 2 topics from the Grassroots Training Topics on the Training CD Discussion about the topics and then have lunch together Drama’s presented by each “Facilitators” disciples on what they have learned about urban poor ministry in the last 3 months Prayer for each others ministries Select the next date (90 days away) and a topic for the next gathering Send a report to the Training Director
