First Civilization Mesopotomia Located in Western Asia Valley between Tigris and Euphrates Rivers Eastern end of the fertile crescent Rich soil and abundant crops Assyria, Akkad, and Sumer made up the Mesopotamian civilization Polytheistic- many gods

Assyrians Located on Upper Tigris River Semitic speaking, used iron weapons and established empire in 700 BCE Empire included Mesopotamia, Plateau of Iran, parts of Asia Minor, Syria, Israel, and Egypt down to Thebes Ruled by kings whose power was absolute Had first large armies equipped with iron weapons
