T HE 50 S TATES AND R EGIONS The student will use maps, globes, photographs, pictures, or tables for 2c)locating the 50 states and the cities most significant to the historical development of the United States.

E SSENTIAL V OCABULARY Culture- the beliefs of a group of people; also art, music, etc. Economic- having to do with money and business Non-contiguous- not connected

E SSENTIAL V OCABULARY Political- having to do with government at any level Political region- a way of defining an area based on governments. A state is an example of a political region. Region- a way of grouping an area

E SSENTIAL U NDERSTANDINGS A state is an example of a political region. States may be grouped as part of different regions, depending upon the criteria used. Cities serve as centers of trade and have political, economic, and/or cultural significance.
