Since Cryptozoology is not considered legitimate, why learn about it? Three Reasons 1) To better understand legitimate biology/zoology. 2) To apply the scientific method to this topic. 3) Because it is weirdly interesting Lesson Focus (Land Cryptids) 1) Appalachian Black Panther 2) Chupacabra 3) Mokele Mbembe 4) Giant Anacondas 5) Bigfoot Typically the scientific community’s view is that these organisms (cryptids) do not exist.
2
Appalachian Black Panthers this animal is alleged to be an undiscovered species of Mountain Lion/Puma that is completely black colored Described as follows: Same size and weight as regular Mountain Lions Same territory and behavior as regular Mountain Lions Unlike normal Mountain Lions, this cat is black colored Note: Jaguars, which live in South American, occasionally are black colored, but no Mountain Lion has ever been confirmed to be black colored. 4
Chupacabra Real or Hoax? alleged to be an unknown animal that attacks goats and other small livestock and sucks out their blood. Also know as the “Goat Sucker”.
5
alleged to be an undiscovered dinosaur living in the swamps and lakes of remote Africa possibly related to the Apatosaurus Mokele Mbembe Real or Hoax?
6
Some people claim to have seen gigantic anacondas. Giant Anaconda Real or Hoax? It is claimed that these snakes are related to extinct Titanoboas
7
Bigfoot this animal is alleged to be an unknown species of primate, related to apes and humans (a mammal) Described as follows: walks upright on two legs covered with long brown or black hair stands around 8 to 10 feet tall lives in wilderness areas leaves very large footprints Also known as Sasquatch, Yeti, or the Abominable Snowman Likes to eat Jack Link's beef jerky (Just Kidding!) Science Notes SPI 0807.5.1 (Classification) SPI 0807.5.4 (Biodiversity)

9
The Scientific Method Make Observations Observation 01: Many people around the world report that they have seen large primate-like creatures walking around in forested regions. Observation 02: Many people have observed and made casts of large footprints in forested regions that are alleged to be Bigfoot tracks. Observation 03: Biologists/zoologists do not support the idea that Bigfoot exists. Science Notes SPI 0807.5.1 (Classification) SPI 0807.5.4 (Biodiversity)

11
Ask Questions Question 01: What is the evidence for the existence of Bigfoot ? Question 02: How many of these creatures must exist? Question 03: Why do scientists reject the idea that Bigfoot exists? Question 04: How large are these creatures alleged to be? Science Notes SPI 0807.5.1 (Classification) SPI 0807.5.4 (Biodiversity) The Scientific Method

13
Ask Questions (continued) Question 05: Why kind of food would Bigfoot eat? Question 07: Why are there no corpses of Bigfoot found for scientists to study ? Question 08: Is there any fossil evidence to support the existence of a super-large primate? Question 06: How much food would Bigfoot need? Science Notes SPI 0807.5.1 (Classification) SPI 0807.5.4 (Biodiversity) The Scientific Method
14
Gigantopithecus Fossils (extinct giant primate) Could this be Bigfoot?
15
Ask Questions Question 01: What is the evidence for the existence of Bigfoot ? Answer: The case for Bigfoot primarily rests on four (weak) items of evidence. Evidence 01: Eyewitness accounts Evidence 02: Footprints Evidence 03: Video and photos (typically poor quality) Evidence 04: The fact that scientists have overlooked creatures in the past such as the coelacanth. The Scientific Method
