2 WE-Mentor preparatory meeting Stuttgart 12/2006 WE-Mentor Enterprising women in European Research mentoring India/Israel/Romania/Turkey WP 1 - Review of experiences, expert tours to the mentee regions “Identifying critical success factors for women entrepreneurs (SMEs) in associated/ candidate states and third countries to increase participation in European research and assessing the potential for improving it.” In WP1 two parallel actions will be carried out: a)Mentors will identify the success-factors in support/training of women entrepreneurs gained in training sessions of previous EU/national-projects. b)Mentors will visit and analyse the mentee regions, seeing and learning about the situation of women entrepreneurs in RTD, the needs for support and the different cultures.

Objectives:1. to review on Mentor experiences 2. to analyse the mentee-regions 3. to visit the mentee regions Duration: month 1 to month 7 Partners involved: Mentors (SEZ, BEA, BETA) Review mentor experiences Visit Mentee regions Mentee partners (ITSMA, KAGIDER, CCIR, MIGAL) Analyses of the Mentee regions Organizing visit Mentee regions Deliverables: D1: Report of WE situation etc in mentee regions (month 6) D2: One expert tour in each mentee region (month 6) Milestone M1 (month 3): Detailed list of critical success factors for the mentoring process

4 WE-Mentor preparatory meeting Stuttgart 12/2006 WE-Mentor Enterprising women in European Research mentoring India/Israel/Romania/Turkey WP 1 - Review of experiences, expert tours to the mentee regions Task 1 Preparatory work Task 1.1 Review on Mentor experiences SEZ and Innova will summarize: the experiences from WomEn2FP6 the important issues to take care of for the successful implementation of the WE-Mentor project and the expert tours. SEZ and Innova will provide a “reminder” paper for the mentors and mentees on the important issues to focus on during the expert tours, focussing on: How to reach women entrepreneurs How to motivate women entrepreneurs for EU RTD How to best approach them (schedules, training, information days, networks) How to support them best (content needs) How to involve all relevant multipliers/intermediaries.

5 WE-Mentor preparatory meeting Stuttgart 12/2006 WE-Mentor Enterprising women in European Research mentoring India/Israel/Romania/Turkey WP 1 - Review of experiences, expert tours to the mentee regions Task 1 Preparatory work Task 1.2 Analyse of WE-specific issues according to existing WE-specific environment “The support of Women Entrepreneurs is linked to the situation of their entrepreneurial environment and this will vary strongly between the mentee regions (Romania, Turkey, Israel and India).” To create suitable mentoring models and training contents further information about the mentee region and their specific needs will be needs, the partners from the mentee regions (IN /TR /RO /IL) will analyse their regional situation on: WE-specific activities and initiatives existing in their region (who are the key players, is there any structured support for WE, is there structured support for FP 6 participation Possible role models / examples of women entrepreneurs successfully participating in transnational cooperation projects, maybe even EU RTD. Expected outcome: This analysis will give an overview on: who are the key players for WE Information on any structured support for WE, on R&D programmes and FP 7 in particular. to clarify the possibilities of participation in FP7 and transnational co-operations Task 1.3 Search for pot. role model Objective: to clarify the possibilities of participation in FP7 and transnational co-operations of Wes in each of the mentee region. Activities: The mentee partners will start to search for a role model in order to involve successful and convinced WEs into the project and during the training-activities in WP4.

6 WE-Mentor preparatory meeting Stuttgart 12/2006 WE-Mentor Enterprising women in European Research mentoring India/Israel/Romania/Turkey WP 1 - Review of experiences, expert tours to the mentee regions Task 2: "Ensure sustainable mentoring models and training contents the expert tours will focus on:" Expert Tours to visit the Mentee regions A study tour will be organised in each mentee region to get a direct impression about existing structures related to the business environment as well as to available support services. The Study tour will be focused on: The specific women entrepreneurs environment in the mentee countries/regions (existing networks / private or governmental supporting schemes or programmes or initiatives; existing role models of successful WE participation in FP7), as well as lacks in support and service structures. WE-specific activities – how are they handled, what are the target groups, etc. Women entrepreneurs – in which sectors do they work, how is their business set up, etc.

7 WE-Mentor preparatory meeting Stuttgart 12/2006 WE-Mentor Enterprising women in European Research mentoring India/Israel/Romania/Turkey WP 1 - Review of experiences, expert tours to the mentee regions Task 2: "Ensure sustainable mentoring models and training contents the expert tours will focus on:" Expert tours will be implemented in two main phases: Task 2.1: Scheduling the expert tours: the agenda will be finalised according to the results from the analyses carried out in the region (include existing regional networks/initiatives etc); Task 2.2: Implementing the Expert tours: 3,5 day visit by two mentor partners in each mentee region. Follow-up: after each expert tour, an implementation plan for the support of women entrepreneurs’ participation in European research programmes by the mentors in close collaboration with the mentee partners. Topics of the expert tours: Infrastructure of mentee region – WE-relevant figures, networks, programmes Objectives of existing networks/initiatives/organisations in mentee regions Collaboration of existing networks/initiatives/organisations in mentee regions Existing training schemes for in mentee regions Identification of best-practices First structure of an implementation plan

9 WE-Mentor preparatory meeting Stuttgart 12/2006 WE-Mentor Enterprising women in European Research mentoring India/Israel/Romania/Turkey WP 1 - Review of experiences, expert tours to the mentee regions Schedule (according to the timing described in the Technical Annex) TASK 1 Preparatory work Task 1.1 Review on Mentor experiences (December 2006 – January 2007) Innova and Sez, supported by BEA and BETa will develop the document; Task 1.2 Analyse of WE-specific issues according to existing WE-specific environment (January 2007 – February 2007) Innova supported by other mentor will develop a template for mentee partenrs and specific indication on the expected outcomes; Mentee partners will implemente the analyses and will sent back the report to Innova Task 1.3 Search for pot. role model (February – June 2007 Mentors and mentee partners will define a role model around the expert tours;

10 WE-Mentor preparatory meeting Stuttgart 12/2006 WE-Mentor Enterprising women in European Research mentoring India/Israel/Romania/Turkey WP 1 - Review of experiences, expert tours to the mentee regions Schedule (according to the timing described in the Technical Annex) TASK 2 "Ensure sustainable mentoring models and training contents the expert tours will focus on:" Task 2.1 Scheduling the expert tours (February 2007 – March 2007) Definition of structure of the tour (to be comparable for the 4 regions) mentee partenrs will develop an agenda for the tour; Task 2.2: Implementing the Expert tours (March – May 2007) 3,5 day visit by two mentor partners in each mentee region. Following the tours the Mentors and mentee region will develop the implementation plan; Finalization of deliverables June 2007
