3
J.Pothier CERN EP/CMIC.Schäfer CERN EP/L3D Very Important Start of Dismantling L3 after purge of gas and electrical safety is assured in other words: Don’t dare to put out ANY module or crate! L3 stays as it is at least until 8.12.2000
4
J.Pothier CERN EP/CMIC.Schäfer CERN EP/L3D Work in heigth: Safety equipment Work on ground: Work with machines: Only specially trained persons Use of approved equipment Two persons rule of working Only specially trained persons Only during machine hours (8h-12h, 13h-17h) Keep at least 3m away from operational machine Safety shoes everywhere on point 2 Helmet in UX25, U2, U5 (cavern), P5 Gloves recommended Two persons rule of working
5
J.Pothier CERN EP/CMIC.Schäfer CERN EP/L3D Major Riscs Falling: 42% of all accidents at CERN Personnel Objects Fire: Electricity: During cutting, welding, etc. Don’t store flammable material in UX25, U1, U4 Extinguishers: every second counts…. Fire Brigade: Red Phone, 112, 74444 No amateurs Check electrical safety (no current)

9
J.Pothier CERN EP/CMIC.Schäfer CERN EP/L3D Access control New access control: new card readers no new access cards needed 2 counters: 1 general LEP and 1 local (INB) all readers are connected to central control room new access database (updated after safety course) for L3: access via small lift PX24, 2 two-way readers for LEP : access via large lift PM 25 bringing up of material via lock

J.Pothier CERN EP/CMIC.Schäfer CERN EP/L3D Fire detection stays operational (except inside support tube) ( gas detection will be dismantled by ST/EL after purging of gas systems (FGSO)) Alarm level 3 test by TIS/GS and the GLIMOS before dismantling No smoking in dismantling areas Every flammable material, e.g. wood, has to be brought onto the surface every evening and put into the metal trash bins Welders or other technicians must use adequate protection equipment against sparks or high temperatures pieces Fire
12
J.Pothier CERN EP/CMIC.Schäfer CERN EP/L3D Check 400 km of cables by ST/EL under control and responsibility by ST/EL and the GLIMOS Every rack and power output is checked individually for the Normal-, Experiment-, Safety- and UPS circuits in P1, P2, P3, P4, P5, MCR, U1, U2, U4, U5, UX25 and SG2 Time estimate: 5 days, NO dismantling before! Temporary power lines and sockets are available Disconnecting of electrical cables from 1. to 7.12.2000
13
J.Pothier CERN EP/CMIC.Schäfer CERN EP/L3D Water/Gas No rack cooling No air conditioning No air extraction in support tube Ventilation of cavern with humid air Stop of rough water supply (including mixed water) on 4.12.00 Flammable gas purge (13.-30.11.2000) No flammable gas in SG2 Disconnect N2 tank for inertion
14
J.Pothier CERN EP/CMIC.Schäfer CERN EP/L3D "Cosmic" run - Magnet tests Cosmic run from 2. to 12.11.2000 Normal run conditions Except new access control No use of PM25 lift Safety shoes and helmet not needed Magnet cooling test for Alice (13.11. - 30.11.00) Restricted access to cavern No working in cavern,U2 and U5
15
J.Pothier CERN EP/CMIC.Schäfer CERN EP/L3D Infractions Persons violating the CERN and L3 safety rules will immediately be denied to have access to point 2 Every action putting other peoples live in danger will be regarded as professional fault
