Truncation/Wildcard –* system* = returns records on system, systems, systematic –? wom?n = returns records on both woman and women (singular and plural forms) Nesting –Parenthesis, () keep related terms together If searching for an exact phrase, enclose phrase in quotation marks, “”

Marcus Vaska, Sept 8/09 Online Resources/Databases: PubMed Database from US National Library of Medicine covering medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, molecular biology, the health care system, and the preclinical sciences. Coverage is from 1966 to the present. Please access PubMed via the U of C online resources route, NOT via pubmed.gov

Marcus Vaska, Sept 8/09 Online Resources/Databases: Academic Search Complete Provides a comprehensive scholarly, multi-disciplinary full-text database, with more than 5,500 full-text periodicals, including more than 4,600 peer-reviewed journals. In addition to full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for more than 9,500 journals and a total of more than 10,000 publications including monographs, reports, conference proceedings, etc. Includes fulltext articles & image collection of photos of people, places, history, natural science, maps, and flags. The database features PDF content going back as far as 1887.
