2 Let’s get started For this lab assignment you will need: A computer with internet connection An account with Skype You might have to get authorization first before installing Skype on your computer A copy of this presentation

3 What is Skype? Skype is an application (program) that can be downloaded for free at www.skype.com With Skype you can make video calls with other Skype users for free. All you need is a connection to the Internet, and a webcam. www.skype.com

4 Directions for Using Skype to Start Skype Double-click the Skype icon to open Skype. Enter in your username and password and click Sign In

5 To Make a Call using Skype To call someone already in your Contacts list, click the Contacts button towards the top left. Locate the contact you wish to call and click on them. Click the green Call Phone button to call. To hang up, click the red End button.

6 Skype Status Options When you login your status will be automatically set to online. This setting lets other users that you are currently available to Skype (have a conversation with them. If you would like to change your status, click the drop-down icon beside your name, and choose from one of the options on the drop-down menu.

7 Adding Contacts Click on the Add a contact button. As a result the Search people on Skype pane will appear. Search for someone you know by typing their name, Skype name, or email address. Skype will display a list of search results as a list. View the search results. When you find the person you're looking for, click Add to Contacts to send them a contact request. Click on the Add a contact button to look for your family and friends. You can also search for the person by typing in their Skype name, and or email address.

8 Sending Instant Messages Find the person you wish to instant message in your Contacts list, or select the previously saved conversation in your Conversations list and click on the person/group or conversation. In the main window, click on the message box to type the instant message you wish to send. When you are ready to send, click the blue Send Message button or simply press the Enter key. If some IMs you, the conversation button will turn orange. Click on the button to view the message.
