2. CMS HO Calorimeter HO has been fabricated, installed and commissioned by Indian Groups (TIFR +PU) Issues Outer rings having inadequate S/B ratio for MIPS HPDs in outer rings have phasing out. Solution  Replace HPDs with read out device Si-PM  Achieve excellent resolution  Insensitive to ambient magnetic field  Compact  Not much electronics is needed

3. Current Activities TB2011 (17-29 July, 2011 ; HO 18, 19 July) HO Continuing for parasitic stability studies during HB data taking period (21-28 July) Studying response of Si-PM for HO to the particle beams using e  20, 50, 80, 100, 150 GeV  20, 50, 100, 150, 200, 300 GeV  150, 225 GeV Analysis of data Currently going on – results to be compiled in CMS notes/publications and in the Ph.D. thesis.

4. Upgrade of Outer Hadron Calorimeter Fabrication of Si-PM control Boards -- Prototype fabrication carried out successfully in India -CRL, Ooty Production and Quality Control of 160 Boards to be done by Indian group

Si-PM Boards Fabrication & QC of 120 Boards (2196 Channels) to be carried out Indian Group Validation of SiPM for CMS environment Testbeam studies, stability, radiation hardness, magnetic field immunity, saturation effects Installation  Assembly of Read out boxes  QC  Burn-in Test at CERN to be carried out jointly by CERN/India Setting up test facility LED Calibration Setup
