2. WHAT IS MSDS? ► Assessment of physical and health hazards of chemicals or products. ► Required by OSHA. ► MSDS compiled by manufacturers. ► Supplied with the initial shipment of the product ► If not supplied with shipment, can request MSDS from manufacturer.

3. WHERE TO FIND MSDS? ► In facilities, there should be a system in place to catalogue MSDS forms. ► Binder specific for the MSDS forms.

4. UNDERSTANDING MSDS ► Product identification – Name and address of manufacturer and emergency phone number where questions can be directed. ► Hazardous Ingredients of Mixtures – Describes the percent composition of the substance, listing chemicals present in the mixture.

5. UNDERSTANDING MSDS ► Physical Data – Physical properties of the material/chemical. ► Fire and Explosion Hazard Data – Information regarding the flammability of the material and information for fighting fires involving the material.

6. UNDERSTANDING MSDS ► Health Hazard – Defines medical signs and symptoms that may be enountered when working with chemical/material. ► Emergency and First Aid Procedures – What to do in case of an emergency or exposure to the product.

7. UNDERSTANDING MSDS ► Reactivity Data – Information regarding stability of material and any special storage considerations. ► Spill, Leak and Disposal Procedures – General procedures, precautions and methods for cleanup of spills

8. UNDERSTANDING MSDS ► Personal Protection Information – General information about appropriate PPE for handling material.
