PAPER VIDEOS Newspapers bring multimedia content to your finger tips APRIL 11, 2013 [THURSDAY] Print media, as in news papers, provide information to readers in the form of text and pictures. Due to the increased demand for multimedia content, we see a transition from print media to digital media. Rather than abandoning news papers, this scenario led us to develop a solution, which is to integrate multimedia content (videos, pictures, audio, etc.) into newspapers by using 2D barcodes. These can be easily scanned and accessed via mobile devices. In our solution, we identified main stakeholders in the industry; the reporter, the news editor, the multimedia company and the end user. The reporter will provide the news to the news editor. In this case, the reporter also provides the multimedia content that is relevant to the article. If the editor feels the necessity to link more multimedia to the article, our solution will assist the process. The editor will format the content and decide the placement of a 2D barcode, which will link to the multimedia content. In order to generate this barcode and to store the extra multimedia content (videos, pictures, audio, etc.), the newspaper will subscribe to a multimedia company. The editor will access the subscribed website in order to generate the 2D barcode. If a picture is to appear in the newspaper article, the editor has the option of embedding the barcode within the image. If there is no picture, the generated barcode alone, can be obtained. The task of the multimedia company would be to host the multimedia files provided by the editor.
