Metabolism Basal Metabolism – the sum of all chemical reactions occurring in the body Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) - The base level of energy required to maintain basic body functions Typical teens use 60 to 70 percent of their energy to maintain normal body function

Do all activities require the same amount of energy? Energy required to perform different activities varies What determines how much energy you use in a physical activity? Energy use is determined by both the intensity and the duration of the activity. Energy use is also determined by body size.

Assignment – Wednesday 5/2 1.Total up each column on your activity log. Multiply by the numbers on the board to figure out your calories for each category. 2.Enter your data into the Website.
