NEW JERSEY The first settlements in New Jersey were made by the Dutch along the western bank of the Hudson

NEW JERSEY. NEW JERSEY WAS FOUND IN 1664 BY LORD BERKELEY AND SIR GEORGE CARTERET. THE AREA WAS FIRST COLONIZED BY DUTCH SETTLERS AROUND 1613. BY 1664 THE BRITISHED HAD ARAMIEDTE ENTIRE REGION AND HAD DRIVEN THE DUTCH OUT.

NEW JERSEY THE NEW JESREY REGION SOON CAME UNDER CONTROL OF THE SWEDES AND THE DUTCH RESULTING IN A STRUGGLE IN WHICH THE DUTCH WERE VICTORIOUS. HOWEVER, THE DUTCH COLONY OF NEW NETHERLAND WAS SEIZED BY THE ENGLISH IN 1664. NEW JERSEY WAS ONE OF THE ORIGNAL 13 COLONIES THAT JOINED THE AMERICAN REVOLUTIONARY WAR IN 1776.” IN 1787, NEW JERSEY BECAME THE THIRD STATE TO RAFITY THE U.S. CONSITUTION AND THE FIRST STATE TO SIGN THE BILL OF RIGHTS. IN 1790 TRENTON OFFCIALLY BECAME THE STATE CAPITAL OF NEW JERSEY. WILLIAM LIVINGSTON BECAME NEW JERSEY’S FIRST STATE GOVERNOR.
