3
Topics Covered Bands Groups Variables Parameters
4
Bands Bands are the horizontal areas delineated in iReport Each Band serves a purpose and will affect how data is displayed on the report The Title Band will show at the top of the report The Page Header Band will show at the top of every page of the report The Column Header Band will show headers for Field/Parameter/Variable values for the Detail Band The Detail Band will show the result of the query. This is the band that may repeat in the report several times (depending on the result set of the query). Field/Parameter/Variable values typically go on this band. Column Footer Band will show Field/Parameter/Variable values that will appear at the bottom of each column in the Detail Band Useful for Averages or Totals from the Band above Page Footer Band will show at the bottom of every page Useful for page number of report Summary Band will appear once at the end of a report Useful for overall report information based on Field/Parameter/Variable values
5
Groups Groups are used when the data returned by the query needs to be structure for each row of the result set Groups contain a sub set of each of the normal Bands but this group of Bands will be repeated for each result in the band Groups can be created to only print based on certain expression criteria Configured in the Properties panel for the Group Most reports will use Groups to properly format the data in the report
6
Variables Variables allows you to preform and store a calculation using Fields and Parameters. The datatype of the Fields/Parameters are important when setting up calculations for Variables In the Properties panel for a Variable clicking the “…” next to Variable Expression will open an expression screen Correctly configured expression will show up as Green Incorrectly configured expression will show up as Red iReport will attempt to explain what is wrong with the expression Before report is compiled verify all Variable Expressions are correct and working
7
Parameters Parameters are the control values for your report and query Parameters will present the users with a prompt to provide Parameter values when report is run These Parameters will dictate what is shown in the output of the report Create the Parameters Right click Parameters in Report Navigator and pick new Jasper and iReport will use the datatype of the Parameters to make sure that the values is used correctly for the database type. This is especially helpful with dates as dates in databases can be difficult to manage correctly A Default value can be provided for the Parameter Make sure “Use as Prompt” is checked for the Parameters you want to have the use specify at the beginning of the report We will look at how to link up these Parameters with WorldServer later
