2 CHARACTER DESIGN – My Alter Ego - Design an original character or life form, drawing your inspiration from everyday items (stationery, tools, etc); plants or animals. - Think about and list down your character's personality and any special traits: - Bright, happy, confident - Sad, depressed - Clumsy, greedy - Timid, fearful - Present 3 views of your character on an A3 paper. 6 Anticipation - Almost all actions are preceded by an anticipation of that action. - Anticipation helps the animator to communicate clearly to the audience what is going to happen next. - Adding anticipation to an action strengthens the action and adds clarity to the movement.

11 Weight & Balance -Two key factors in making believable animation - Weight: - All figures should possess weight in their actions; dependable on age / mood / external forces, etc. - Balance: - Linked to weight of the figure

17 Overlapping Action The movement of the different parts of a living creature do not occur at the same time; things start, move and stop at different points and move at different rates. - To create this lifelike action, it is necessary to create time lags between these separate actions making the movement of the individual elements overlap. This is what we call overlapping action.

21 EXERCISE – Anticipation, Weight & Balance Have a figure execute a simple action (push / pull / throw / lift), taking into consideration anticipation, weight & overlapping action (approx 20 drawings)
