Getting Started with i-Ready

In advance of the training 1)Confirm location 2)Confirm that there will be enough computers/laptops for participants 3)Ensure that the wifi bandwidth will be sufficient for the number of participants who will be using it 4)If in a computer lab, ensure that participants know how to log onto the computer itself to access the internet. 5)Ensure that the i-Ready System Check is run on each device in advance of the training. www.i-Ready.com/support 2

In advance of the training, cont. 6)Find out from the site/district administrators: a)How many Diagnostics will be required across the year and the deadlines for at least the first one. b)Which definition of “on level” teachers should select for the reports (see below) c)Whether or not the monthly Progress Monitoring assessments will be kept on auto- assign. If so, Get the schedule for each reading and math (available once the account has been activated). 3

In advance of the training, cont. Handout: Teacher Training Guide pages: –The TTG is referred to throughout this training. It is available electronically in i-Ready > Resources tab > View Quick Start videos link > Helpful Docs tab –There is a black and white “low resolution” version available to use less printer ink. –If you do not want to print the entire TTG, then determine which pages to print. At a minimum, print pages 5-8 and 16-19. Also print the pages for the Diagnostic portion of the Scavenger Hunt, if you are including that activity in the training. 4

Objectives for Getting Started By the end of this session you will be able to: 1.Understand how i-Ready Diagnostic & Instruction works 2.Prepare students for the i-Ready Diagnostic 3.Administer the i-Ready Diagnostic 4.Access and analyze key Diagnostic reports 5.Access and use key resources 7

Ponder… 8 What is your biggest challenge with differentiated instruction?

What is i-Ready Diagnostic & Instruction? 9 Teacher-Directed Instruction: Inform whole class, small group, individual instruction (K-8) Student-Driven Online Instruction-Not Included: Automated, differentiated instruction for every student (K-8) Pinpoint each student’s needs down to the sub-skill level (K-12) Instantaneous, easily accessible reporting & progress monitoring

During the Diagnostic: Testing Tips Monitor students to ensure they’re not rushing or clicking through and that they are trying their best! –Take a break –Reset Game breaks Help students with any technical/ audio issues, but don’t help with answers. Be sure students know what to do (such as start on Instruction) if they finish early. 36 Teacher Training Guide page 7
