YOUNG HELEN KELLER Helen Adams Keller was born June 27, 1880 in Tuscumbia, Alabama.

BECOMING DEAF/BLIND She was 19 months old when she had either scarlet fever or meningitis which left her blind and deaf. Her mother found out about her condition when Helen would not respond to light or sound.

MEET ANNE SULLIVAN At age 6,the Kellers hired Anne Sullivan to teach Helen. Anne was 20 at that time.

THE LEARNING PROCESS At age 6, Teacher Anne Sullivan taught her how to communicate. Doll, was her first word learned. At first Helen was puzzled, but after feeling water run on her hand she soon became intrested and soon had a thirst for knowledge. At 7 she had over 60 home signs.

FIRST FRIEND Her first friend was Martha Washington. The 6 year old daughter of the family cook who understood her signs.

Helen Keller became a world famous speaker and author. She wrote 12 published books. The Frost King, first writing at 11. The Story of My Life(Autobiography)1922. Her admirable traits are : confident, curious, kind and knowledgable. Of course she must have more than that but these are the ones I noticed most. WHY I ADMIRE HELEN KELLER

DEATH She di ed on June 1st, year 1968 in her sleep. She was 87 when she died.
