This is for all of the people who believe in the goodness of pit bulls and those people who are not yet sure which side to join. The more you learn about them, the more you will believe. I was a skeptic at first too, but then I went and rescued a blue nose and he showed me his true colors with all of his kisses. Give them a chance.

Every day, people around the world are coming together to help protect furry friends known as pit bulls. But many people are still uninformed about them. Where did they come from? Are they born dangerous? What are the myths?
3
They originated in England and came to North America with English immigrants. They were bred from bull dogs who were known for hunting large animals with their owners.
4
The term pit-bull came from the act of “pitting” one bulldog against another. It then became common for people to breed bulldogs with terriers to create smaller dogs. This made the fighting ring more entertaining for its viewers. The mix of the two breeds are the forebears for the present day pit bull.
5
Just like any other dog, pit bulls need to be socialized with other dogs and people in order to learn acceptable behavior. This is easier when done at a younger age. People who would fight pit bulls would keep them in their home as “nursemaid dogs” because they were so reliable with young children. This shows that pit bulls are not naturally aggressive towards people.
6
“Pit Bull’s have locking jaws” – A pit bull is strong willed and can hang on for a long period of time, but their jaws do not lock. Any pit bull skull can prove that. “If a pit bull bites another dog it will start biting people next” – Research has shown that dogs who get into fights with other dogs are not more likely to go after a person, some of the best fighting dogs were very trustworthy with their families. “Dog parks are good for socialization” – Some dogs are not meant for the dog park. Pit bulls are strong and may play harder than other dogs which may cause them to accidently harm another dog. There are easy going pit bulls who can play with others just fine, but not every one is the same.
7
Pit bulls used to have a great reputation: They worked with solders in WW1. They were on many posters for WW1 and in many advertising ads. They were companions for famous people such as Helen Keller, President Theodore Roosevelt, General George Patton, President Woodrow Wilson, Fred Astaire and Humphrey Bogart.
8
And they still do their part… Pit bulls were involved in the search and rescue team that helped save people who were in the World Trade Center. They participate as therapy dogs around the country, and are partners in the police force.
9
And the non-famous people who help rescue pit bulls everyday….
10
21 pit bull rescue groups. They all have slogans that show their love for pit bulls and the desire to save their lives. Such as “In memory of all pit bulls, killed by ignorance and fear” (Second Chance Pit Bull Rescue, Inc) and “Rescuing pit bulls, because we should be fighting FOR them” (Rugaz Rescue, Inc.) and many more.
