In the story we read about how the main character lives with an old man in his house. However, the old man has a red, vulture’s eye. For some reason this bothers the main character so much that he wants to get rid of it! Then he starts spying on the old man every night in the dark, but one night the old man realizes he’s there.

► The conflict of the story is that the old man’s eye bothers the main character so much that he wants to get rid of it. ► In the end, he gets rid of the eye by killing the old man but the main character can still hear the old man’s heartbeat.

The theme of the story is that sometimes one little burden can bring big consequences. For example the main character in this story was bothered by the old man’s eye which caused him to commit murder.

In The Tell-Tale Heart some foreshadowing is used. He also uses a simile and repetition of important ideas of the story.

The Tell-Tale Heart is a Horror short story. Edgar Allen Poe published mostly horror fiction stories.

Edgar Allan Poe was born January 19, 1809. By the time he was three his mom had passed away and his dad had left him. He was then adopted by a wealthy family. After leaving his home and staying penniless he moved with his aunt. In 1827 Poe published his first book. Years later he won a $50 price for one of his stories, and married his14 year old cousin. Then they moved to Richmond where Poe became Editor of a newspaper. He also wrote other books and stories like; The Fall of the House Of Usher, The Murders in the Rue Morgue, “The Raven” and The Bells. Edgar Allan Poe died in October 7 th, 1849 he was found in the gutter, and died four days later.

My Opinion I liked this story, although horror stories are not really my thing, I enjoyed reading it. Therefore, I recommend it to people who like horror or scary stories, even suspenseful or some that want to try a new story.
