Changing Direction How can an object stay at the same speed yet still be accelerating? Changing Directions at a constant speed requires acceleration move in the new direction

5 Let’s Practice Please do the two ‘Math Practice’ on page 25.
Another practice opportunity, A badminton shuttlecock leaves the racquet traveling at 30 m/s. It goes over the net which is 5 meters away 0.5 seconds later with a speed of 10 m/s. Calculate its average acceleration.

6 Accelerating Marble Challenge: To design track for a marble to travel on. The marble should: Accelerate at least twice Decelerate at least twice Change directions at least once Drop gently into a paper cup at the end of the track.

7 How did it Accelerate? Make a sketch of your marble track.
Label the track with: The areas of acceleration The areas of deceleration The area(s) of changing direction What was the initial speed of the marble? How do you know? Why did your track start with an area of acceleration (not deceleration)?
