E ARTH AND THE SUN https://youtu.be/R2lP146KA5A As you can see in the video above the Earth orbits the sun in a unique way. This effects many day to day things that happen on Earth.

W EATHER AND C LIMATE The Earth’s position with the Sun effects many day to day factors like weather and climate. The tilt on Earth’s axis (23.5 degrees) effects where sunlight may be in different areas. For example, The North could be getting more sunlight because it is tilted more towards the sun, while the earth rotates on its axis. Because of this unequal heating depending on where the earth is to the sun, we have seasons!

E QUINOX AND SOLSTICE Equinox’s happen twice a year and shift seasons. Equal day and Equal night March 21- Spring Equinox September 23- Autumn Equinox Solstice’s also happen twice a year and shift seasons June 21- Summer Solstice (longest day of the year) The sun will have direct rays on the Tropic of Cancer. NORTH December 22- Winter Solstice (longest night of the year) The sun will have direct rays on the Tropic of Capricorn NORTH

POLES The poles are effected the most from the Earth and Sun as one pole may receive no sunlight for up to 6 months while the other will receive continuous sunlight for 6 months.

T HE G REENHOUSE E FFECT Warming of Earth’s atmosphere. 50% of the Sun’s radiation is absorbed into heat. Atmospheric gasses absorb this so it does not escape. Without it the greenhouse effect, we would not have sustainable temperatures. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYMjSule0B w
