The Christian and Stewardship Lesson 14

Psalm 24:1 z The earth is the LORD's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.

To whom do we belong? zGod created us together with all things.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 z Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

To whom do we belong? z God created us together with all things. z God redeemed us by Jesus' death on the cross.

Truth #1 zWe belong to God completely, body and soul. He made us and he redeemed us.

1 Peter 4:10 z Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms.

How should we use what we have? zGod is the owner; we are the stewards (managers).

Matthew 25:14-30 zTo one he gave five talents of money, to another two talents, and to another one talent, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey… For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.

How should we use what we have? zGod is the owner; we are the stewards (managers). zWe will use what God has given us, much or little, as God wills. zWe remain responsible to him.

Truth #2 zWe are stewards of the treasures God gives to us.

Some things that God has made us stewards over:

1 Corinthians 4:2 z Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.

What does God expect from his stewards? zGod expects us to be faithful stewards.

Romans 13:11-14 zAnd do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. 12 The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. 13 Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. 14 Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.

What does God expect from his stewards? zGod expects us to be faithful stewards. zWe should serve with what we have while we have the chance.

Matthew 25:19-20 zAfter a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. The man who had received the five talents brought the other five. "Master," he said, "you entrusted me with five talents. See, I have gained five more."

What does God expect from his stewards? zGod expects us to be faithful stewards. zWe should serve with what we have while we have the chance. zWe are accountable to God for how we use his gifts.

Truth #3 zChristian stewards will be faithful stewards.

2 Corinthians 5:14-15 z For Christ's love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.

Truth #4 zThe one word that explains WHY we want to be faithful stewards is love, Jesus' love for us which leads us to love Jesus and all people.

John 15:10-11 z If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father's commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.

Is there any reward for service? z We will find joy and contentment when we serve God as his faithful stewards.

Matthew 25:19-30 z 29 For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance.

Is there any reward for service? zWe will find joy and contentment when we serve God as his faithful stewards. zThe more faithfully we serve, the more God will give to us.

Matthew 25:31-46 zThen the King will say to those on his right, "Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world… I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me."

Is there any reward for service? zWe will find joy and contentment when we serve God as his faithful stewards. zThe more faithfully we serve, the more God will give to us. zOn the Last Day Jesus will mention the works of faithful stewards as evidence of their faith.

Matthew 25:21,23 zHis master replied, "Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!"

Is there any reward for service? zWe will find joy and contentment when we serve God as his faithful stewards. zThe more faithfully we serve, the more God will give to us. zOn the Last Day Jesus will mention the works of faithful stewards as evidence of their faith. zHe will say, "Well done, good and faithful servant!"

Truth #6 zGod will commend faithful stewards.
