NCAA: National Collegiate Athletic Association 3 Divisions: o DI and DII offer athletic scholarships o DIII does NOT offer athletic scholarships but other forms of aid are available CA Examples o DI: UC Berkeley, UC Davis, Sac State, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, University of San Francisco, USC o DII: UC San Diego, Sonoma State, San Francisco State, Academy of Art University, Azusa Pacific o DIII: UC Santa Cruz, Pomona Pitzer, Chapman University, Mills College

What are my options? NAIA: National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Athletic scholarships are available CA Examples o Biola University, William Jessup University, Menlo College, Simpson University, California Maritime Academy, Cal State San Marcos

What are my options? CCCAA: CA Community College Athletic Association Athletic scholarships are NOT available, $46/unit Platform for further development Stepping stone for transfer Compete for up to two years in one sport SRJC, Napa Valley College, College of Marin

Strategies for future athletic success STRATEGY 1: KEEP ALL DOORS OPEN (Target D1/D2 “Qualifier” Status) D1 Qualifier Graduate high school 16 Core courses 10 of 16 before senior year (7 of these 10 must be English, math and science); these courses and grades are “locked in” GPA and SAT/ACT on sliding scale (2.3 minimum GPA) The “Academic Redshirt Year” SENIORS: You need only the 16 core courses and the GPA/Test Score on the current sliding scale (2.0 min GPA); No Academic Redshirt Year

Strategies for future athletic success STRATEGY 1: KEEP ALL DOORS OPEN (Target D1/D2 “Qualifier” Status) D2 Qualifier Graduate high school 16 Core courses with a 2.0 GPA 820 SAT or 68 ACT FRESHMEN: You will be under a different set of rules with a GPA/test score sliding scale that has a minimum 2.2 GPA “Partial Qualifiers”

Strategies for future athletic success STRATEGY 2: BE OPEN TO ALTERNATIVES D1 VS. D2 NCAA VS. NAIA DIVISION 3 CCC such as SRJC An opportunity to develop athletically, academically, socially A good option when you are uncertain and/or not ready for a big decision yet You still should target NCAA QUALIFIER STATUS!!! This leaves opportunities open.

Strategies for future athletic success STRATEGY 4: GET AHEAD The athletic eligibility rules once you arrive on a college campus are rigorous! College credit earned now will contribute towards meeting future requirements. AP Classes/Tests Concurrent Enrollment (get it while it’s FREE!) Early Summer Start

Strategies for future athletic success STRATEGY 5: NO MATTER WHAT, STRIVE FOR COLLEGE READINESS Remedial units needed at the college level close doors athletically Not being ready for college when you arrive on ANY college campus closes doors athletically Do NOT stop taking Math!!! Take College English and math placement exams Create study habits for success NOW!
