What works? The key to any employee health and wellness plan is to have an integrated, strategic plan that is supported at all levels of the organization

New Physical Activity Guidelines 150min per week 10min bouts Moderate intensity Vigorous intensity Strength training at least twice a week More is better Exercise never needs to be painful

Applying the new guidelines to the workplace Must be support behind any program What can you do before and after? Walking/running groups Stairclimbing Yoga/ group exercise classes Stretching classes Zumba Healthy weights clubs/classes

During the work day Activities/programs for breaks ○ 10min bouts Power walk On the spot exercises Climb stairs Skip Abdominal and low back exercises Squats, lunges Stretching 100’s of exercises that can be done at a desk or small workplace

10min bouts (cont’d) Average person should be able to complete 5 sets of 12 reps with a 30 sec rest Have days that are muscle group themed and send out exercises Simple You Tube video or recipe cards work great

10min bouts (cont’d) Set weekly and monthly goals Do measurements to track progress (i.e., waist circumference, weight, body mass index) “Hold their hand” through the process Reward anyone that meets ‘progress’ goals Ex. Person completed 25-10min workouts in 1 month ---- It’s a start!
