2. A message from space? A message from space? A huge metal sphere dropped out of the sky and landed in the remote grasslands of Northern Namibia. T he 14-inch-wide (35-centimeter) metallic sphere hit the ground about 480 miles (750 kilometers) north of Windhoek, the African country's capital. It left a crater 13 inches (33 cm) deep and 12.5 feet (3.8 meters) across, the AFP reported. The metallic object weighs 13 pounds and has a rough surface. It appears to have two halves that were welded together, according to the AFP.

3. Is it Dangerous? The metal space ball was found in November, but local authorities held off on announcing it until they could perform a few tests. They determined it poses no danger to the country. “It is not an explosive device but we had to investigate all this first,” police deputy inspector general Vilho Hifindaka told AFP. However, he and his colleges still don’t know where the mysterious ball came from after contacting NASA and the European Space Agency for help.

4. Has this Happened Before? Locals apparently heard several small explosions a few days before the ball was found. Similar spheres have also been found in Australia and Central America over the past two decades. Quite a bit of space junk has rained from the sky this year. In September, for example NASA’s defunct Upper Atmosphere Research satellite found a 6.5 ton craft that monitored climate from 1991 until 2005-plunged into the atmosphere over the Pacific Ocean. Just a month later Germany’s 2.7 ton Troetgen Satellite fell to earth over the Indian Ocean.

5. Who? Agence-France Presse (AFP) found the ball in Northern Namibia.

7. When They found the ball in November but were done testing in December, to find that the sphere posed no danger to Africa.

8. Where? The ball was found in the remote grasslands of Northern Namibia, 480 miles north of the country’s capital, Windhoek.

9. It connects to me personally because if I was living in Namibia when this ball fell from the sky and it WAS harmful then I could be dead right now.

10. History I think that this event can relate to history because if something were to happen to the ball like an explosion then scientists and Historians would jot it down as a historic event. Plus they are probably keeping track of how many and where these things are happening just like they did when this happened in Germany and Central America.
