1.  What is a mentor? Why can they be helpful?  Do you know how you can find mentors?

4.  In recent weeks we have looked at possibly careers you may want to do and how you could achieve that goal.  But honestly, your ten year goals is not complete unless you get advice on it.  I could give you advice but many of your chosen careers I can’t.  This assignment is about finding you the right guidance and hopefully build a mentor relationship through it.

5.  You will be using and redrafting the email that you had sent last week.  You are going to find and email three potential mentors with your chosen career.  You will fine tune your email to suit their job or research (each of your emails should be different).  You will cc me on each one of your emails.

6.  You will write a short summary on the three people you emailed.  Who are they, where are they from (school or business), what do they do and why did you choose them.

7.  If they are a researcher…you need to look at college websites. Google search school name and marine biology…then look under faculty.  Possible schools: USC, CSULB, CSUN, UCSB, UCSD (Scripps)…University of Miami…Hawaii…pick a state with an ocean near it. Example – CSULB Marine Biology  If your job is more of a business then google search the type of job add business and pick a state…  Example – Ocean Engineering Business California.
