Pack 305 Cub Scout Program Big Spring, Texas First Baptist Church

Purpose of Cub Scouting Since 1930, the Boy Scouts of America has helped younger boys through Cub Scouting. It is a year-round family program designed for boys 1 st through 5 th grade. Parents, leaders and organizations work together to achieve the purpose of Cub Scouting.

The Pack

Membership After joining a Pack, Cub Scouts are assigned to a Den based on their age group. These dens typically meet twice a month for “Den Meetings” Once a month the Den or Pack will go on a field trip, also called a “Go See It”. Once a month all of the dens and family members gather for a Pack Meeting.

Volunteer Leadership Thousands of volunteer leaders, both men and women, are involved in the Cub Scout program. The serve in a variety of positions, including unit leaders, pack committee chairmen, committee members, and chartered organization representatives. The Pack Committee is made up of all the parents of the boys in the pack and members of the charter organization.

Who Pays for Cub Scouting? The funding for the program comes from the boys, their families, the pack, the charter organization and the community. Packs earn an income by participating in fund- raisers. The community includes the United Way, Friends of Scouting and the BSA. Financial support provides leadership training, outdoor programs, service centers, and professional services.

Cub Scout Advancement Recognition is important! The advancement plan provides fun for the boys and gives them a sense of personal achievement as they earn badges. This also strengthens family understanding as the family members work with the scouts on advancement projects.

Activities Cub Scouting means “doing!” Everything in Cub Scouting is designed to have the boys doing things. Activities are used to achieve the Purpose of Cub Scouting. Many of the activities happen in the den and pack meetings. Other activities will happen outside of those meetings.

Publications Cub Scouts are subscribed to Boys’ Life magazine. Volunteer Adults are subscribed to Scouting Magazine.

Cub Scout Ideals Ideals are learned through the Cub Scout Promise, the Law of the Pack, the Cub Scout sign, handshake and salute, all while having fun!

Law of the Pack The Cub Scout follows Akela. The Cub Scout helps the Pack go. The Pack helps the Cub Scout grow. The Cub Scout gives goodwill.

Cub Scout Colors The Cub Scout colors are blue and gold. They have special meaning that helps the scouts see beyond the fun. Blue is for Truth and Spirituality, Steadfast Loyalty, and the sky above. Gold is for warm sunlight, good cheer, and happiness.
