3 Cartograms What is a cartogram? A cartogram is a specialty map, sometimes drawn with straight lines, in which countries or regions are sized based on a set of data, such as population figures, rather than land mass. The general shapes and relative locations of countries or regions are drawn similar to a regular map. Remember the cartogram we have seen already in this chapter?
