Library Access 24/7 Did you know that you can do research without actually coming to the KC Library on campus? You have access to our databases and ebooks: As long as you are enrolled in the current semester at KC. As long as you have Internet access.

Logging in from Off-Campus When logging in from off-campus, you will need a username and password. Username: Last name Password: 1 st 4 of your last name, 1 st four of your first name, last 4 digits of your Social Security Number.

Off-Campus Log In So, if your name is Soft Kitty and your social security number is 123456789, your login will be: Username:Kitty Password:kittsoft6789

Use the Call Number to find the book on the shelf

During Renovation If you need a book that is not in the temporary library, we can see if it is on the shelf in the Library building. We only go to the Library building once a day. You may have to wait 24 hours to get the book.

Interlibrary Loan If there is a book you need that we do not have, we can try to get it through Interlibrary Loan. Interlibrary loan takes time, so don’t wait until the last minute.

Remember the citation information! Use the Cite feature. Use EasyBib from the Library home page. Use MLA style to format your citations. – MLA is short for The Modern Language Association of America – The manual for MLA is called MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers – See the MLA tab in The Little, Brown Compact Handbook

Why Use a Database? Anyone can create an internet site. – It can be true. – It can be fake. You have to verify internet information. – Who is the author? – Does the site want to provide information, or sell something? – When was it last updated?

Databases Provide thousands of articles from journals, newspapers, or books. The information is more accurate. Many articles are peer-reviewed. Your instructor prefers database articles to internet sites.

Use EasyBib to format your citations properly.

EasyBib On the Library home page, scroll down to see Easy Bib on the right side. Click on this.

Select a tab If you are using a book source, click the tab for Book. If you are using a database, click the tab for Databases. Use the drop down box to select the type of database. In most instances, this will be Article published by database (pick this if unsure)

Add Citations If you create several citations at a time, EasyBib will alphabetize them as you go. Then, you can copy and paste them to your Works Cited page.

Citations Each time you use someone else’s words or ideas, you must provide a citation to give credit to that person. You will include parenthetical citations in the text of your paper. For each citation, you will provide a corresponding bibliography.

Parenthetical Text Citations To document your research, provide the last name of the author and the page numbers on which the information appeared in the book or article used. Example: Heidegger sought to explain the act of being a person (Duignan 277).
