2 READING COMPREHENSION On the CAHSEE you will be given several passages to read, followed by a series of multiple-choice questions that test your understanding of the text. There are a total of 38 reading comprehension questions on the CAHSEE: 18 questions based on informational (factual) text 20 questions based on literary text (i.e. poems, plays, short stories, and memoir).

26 EXAMPLE QUESTION STEMS Change generally happens over time to a character or person. You will need to look for clues throughout the passage. It is likely that the author has given direct or indirect characterization throughout the passage you are asked to read. Again, the learning process this character had is something that likely occurred over time in the passage.
