2
Irresistible Grace Definition of Terms Irresistible – that which cannot be successfully resisted or opposed Grace – unmerited favor (Salvation by a supernatural working of the Holy Spirit according to Calvinism)
3
Irresistible Grace Creeds of Men Say: “the Holy Spirit, in order to bring God’s elect to salvation, extends to them a special inward call…a work of grace within the sinner which inevitably brings him to faith in Christ.”
4
Irresistible Grace Creeds of Men Say: “This is accomplished through regeneration or the new birth by which the sinner is made a child of God and is given spiritual life…the once dead sinner is drawn to Christ by the inward supernatural call of the spirit who through regeneration makes him alive and creates in him faith and repentance.”
5
Irresistible Grace Creeds of Men Say: “All those whom God has predestinated unto life, and those only, He is pleased, in His appointed and accepted time, effectually to call, by His Word and Spirit, out of that state of death, in which they are by nature, to grace and salvation by Jesus Christ;
6
Irresistible Grace Creeds of Men Say: enlightening their minds spiritually and savingly, to understand the things of God; taking away their heart of stone, and giving them a heart of flesh; renewing their wills, by His almighty power
7
Irresistible Grace Creeds of Men Say: determining them to that which is good; and effectually drawing them to Jesus Christ, yet so as they come most freely, being made willing by His grace.”
8
Irresistible Grace Creeds of Men Say: “This effectual call is of God’s free and special grace alone, not from anything at all foreseen in man, who altogether passive therein, until, being quickened and renewed by the Holy Spirit…
9
Irresistible Grace Creeds of Men Say: he is thereby enabled to answer this call, and to embrace the grace offered and conveyed by it.” (The Wesminister Confession of Faith, Chapter 10)
10
Irresistible Grace Explained & Refuted: Is a dead corpse parallel to a dead sinner? Not in ability to act. Ephesians 2.2-3; Colossians 3.7

12
Irresistible Grace “among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.”
13
Irresistible Grace Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. {6} Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, {7} in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them. (Col 3:5-7 NKJV)
14
Irresistible Grace Explained & Refuted: Is a dead corpse parallel to a dead sinner? A dead sinner means they are separated from God. Isaiah 59.1-2; Colossians 1.21
15
Irresistible Grace Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened, That it cannot save; Nor His ear heavy, That it cannot hear. {2} But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear. (Isa 59:1-2 NKJV)
16
Irresistible Grace And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled. (Col 1:21 NKJV)
17
Irresistible Grace Explained & Refuted: Is a dead corpse parallel to a dead sinner? And “made alive” means to be forgiven of sins. Colossians 2.13
18
Irresistible Grace And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, (Col 2:13 NKJV)
19
Irresistible Grace Questions for the Calvinist: How can “irresistible grace” produce faith in us when the Bible says it comes by hearing the gospel?
20
Irresistible Grace Faith Comes by Hearing: “and so spoke that a great multitude both of the Jews and of the Greeks believed.” (Ax. 14:1)
21
Irresistible Grace Faith Comes by Hearing: “that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe.” (Ax. 15:7)
22
Irresistible Grace Faith Comes by Hearing: “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God” (Rom. 10:17)
23
Irresistible Grace The Words of the Spirit convict: “…the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God ” – Eph. 6.17 “Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart…” – Acts 2.37 “ When they heard these things they were cut to the heart…” – Acts 7.54
24
Irresistible Grace Faith comes AFTER hearing: “Now a certain woman named Lydia heard us…the Lord opened her heart …” – Acts 16.14
25
Irresistible Grace The grace of God is NOT irresistible: It can be received in vain… “We…plead with you not to receive the grace of God in vain.” (2 Cor. 6:1)
26
Irresistible Grace The grace of God is NOT irresistible: The Holy Spirit can be resisted… “You stiffed neck and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did so do you.” (Ax. 7:51)
