5 Graduation Requirements History (Wld Hist, US Hist, Govt, Econ) 3 yrs. English 4 yrs. Math (including Algebra 1) 2 yrs. Science ( Life and Physical) 2 yrs. Foreign Language 2 yrs. Fine Art 1 yr. PE 2 yrs. Electives 65 credits Must pass the California High Exit Exam (CAHSEE). Must earn full credit in all required courses. TOTAL: 225 credits

8 Higher Education in California As a resident of California you have FOUR options for higher education. 139 Community Colleges (CC) 23 California State Universities (CSU) 9 University of California (UC) 70 + Private and Independent Colleges/ Universities

9 CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY COLLEGES (Requirements) High School Graduate If not a high school graduate, must be at least 18 years of age No specific course requirements No exams required

11 23 campuses throughout the state Top one-third (33%) of California high school graduates Many Community College students transfer to a California State University Requirements: UC ’ s A-G requirements Grades of C or better SAT or ACT CSU minimum GPA to apply for admission is 2.0

Planning Conference Do your best in all classes Begin to take part in Summer Programs Visit local college campuses Begin community service Remember, you will have more options if you start planning now for college and keep your grades up.

17 Support for Academic Success Support for Academic Success Attend Teacher Office Hours or talk to them during lunch or after school. Free Peer Tutoring – California Scholarship Federation students are assigned through Mr. Freedman. Private outside tutors

Plan Ensure students are on-track for graduation and post graduation goals Help determine appropriate course placement Meet individually with struggling students Serve as a source for information on high school and post high school options
