Benefits for ALI Students A partial scholarship and tuition waiver is provided for all students admitted to the Applied Language Institute (ALI) Academic scholarships for ALI graduates allow students to pay resident tuition for academic study at UMKC The ALI is a fully-accredited department of the University ALI classes count towards graduation. Earn credits towards graduation while you learn English Many academic classes are offered through the Applied Language Institute

Each student takes a placement test to determine his/her correct level of instruction Basic: Zero level; true beginner Level I: High beginner Level II: Low intermediate Level III: High intermediate Level IV: Low advanced. Upon completion of Level IV courses, students should be ready for academic work at the undergraduate level. Level V: Mid-advanced. Upon completion of Level V courses, students should be ready for academic work at the graduate level.

Every student admitted to the Applied Language Institute receives a partial scholarship to help with costs. Our ESL program is one of the most affordable available.

Housing Costs Homestay with an American family: $600 per month, including breakfast and dinner. Dormitories and apartments are available on campus for about $800 to $1000 per month including meals.

RESIDENT MEAL PLAN OPTIONS Students living in Oak or Johnson Residence Halls must choose one of the plans shown: 15 meals/week with $125/semester in Flex Dollars Annual Price $2,641 Enjoy fifteen (15) resident all-you-care-to-eat & drink meals in the Union Cafeteria per week and $125.00 in meal plan points to be spent in any dining services location throughout the semester. 12 meals/week with $175/semester in Flex Dollars Annual Price $2,525 Enjoy twelve (12) resident all-you-care-to-eat & drink meals in the Union Cafeteria per week and $175.00 in meal plan points to be spent in any dining services location throughout the semester. 180 meals/semester (average 11.25 meals/week) with $175/semester in Flex Dollars. Homestay STUDENT UNIVERSITY MEAL PLAN OPTIONS All Voluntary Points and Commuter Student Meal Plans may be purchased by visiting the One Card Office on the second floor of the University Center OR by calling the One Card Office at: 816.235.6657. Steady Diner Plan (75 meals/semester, $50.00/semester in Flex Dollars) Price: $500.00 (plus tax) Enjoy 75 meals per semester in the Union Cafeteria with $50.00 in Flex Dollars. Frequent Diner Plan (50 meals/semester, $100.00/semester in Flex Dollars) Price: $400.00 (plus tax) Enjoy 50 meals per semester in the Union Cafeteria with $100.00 in Flex Dollars. Occasional Diner Plan (25 meals/semester, $150.00/semester in Flex Dollars) Price: $300.00 (plus tax) Enjoy 25 meals per semester in the Union Cafeteria with $150.00 in Flex Dollars. Best Value Plan (50 meals/semester) Price: $275.00 (plus tax) Enjoy 50 meals per semester in the Union Cafeteria. Voluntary Points Package Plan ($100 in volume points, usable at any DS venue) Price: $95.00 (plus tax) Voluntary Points Commuter students may purchase all Voluntary Points for use in any dining location on campus. It requires a minimum of $50.00 + tax to begin a declining balance account. This option can be purchased at the One Card Office, located across the hall from the Information Desk on the second floor of the University Center. It includes an automatic 10% upgrade on the amount you purchase (For example: Buy $100 in declining balance and receive $110!). Homestay students may also elect to purchase a meal plan and eat lunch at one of the campus dining facilities.

In addition to the cafeteria, the following food options are available at the Student Union. Students can also purchase bagels, smoothies and sandwiches at several campus locations.
