The Obligations of Islam 1.The Shahadah - you recite “I bear witness that there is no God but Allah and that Muhammad is His Messenger” *Saying the Shahadah in Sincerity is all it takes to become a Muslim

The obligations of Islam 2. The Salat: - To Pray - A Muslim is required to pray 17 cycles each day - Rak’a 1. Dawn 2. Noon 3. Midafternoon 4. Dusk 5. 2 hours after sunset

The Obligations of Islam 3. The Sawm: - to Fast - During Ramadhan - During Daylight hours only - abstain from: 1. Eating 2. Drinking 3. Smoking 4. Sexual Relations *After sundown they can partake of all those things until sunrise

The Obligations of Islam 4. Zakat (to give Alms) - Muslims are commanded to give 1/40 (2.5%) of their income to the poor and needy

The obligations of Islam 5. Hajj (pilgrimage) - every Muslim must make the trip to Mecca at least once in their lifetime provided their health and finances are adequate - must wear white garments called ihram, which have the effect of eliminating all class or status
