Supporting part time members of staff City Lit offers 3,000 courses 23,000 learners Potentially 1,000 part time tutors on our payroll Low skill base for ILT

why is it vital to support our part time teachers? Increasingly our learners will have used ILT in school/college and will expect it a key theme of last term’s ALI monitoring inspection Teachers won’t use ILT if they haven’t had good training and feel confident using it Supporting part time members of staff

ILT Facilities at City Lit : - all classrooms have network & web access - digital cameras, video cameras, MP3 recorders - 21 ceiling-mounted multimedia projectors - 5 plasma screens - 9 interactive whiteboards - 4 trolleys of 5 laptops for any classroom - 6 mobigos for presentation in other rooms, inc 2 at CSE - an internet City Lit portal to aid home working - on-line references (eg, Britannia, Oxford reference etc) - Virtual Learning Environment

Supporting part time members of staff How do we engage our part time teachers in the ILT process? Target set for 600 teachers to have received at least 3 hour induction over 3 years

Supporting part time members of staff Staff Development should aim to : excite, inspire and empower teachers Start from where people are – not from where we want them to be! Adopt user-friendly terminology

Supporting part time members of staff How to do this? ILT Fair 200 attenders Attendance allowance of £50 Key note speech and workshops Sponsorship Freebies – e.g Memory sticks (USB)
