Rocks and the Rock Cycle In this very important unit you will be exploring the world of rocks. Is a rock just a rock? This and many more questions will be answered over the next week. Have fun!

An overview of the Rock Cycle Step one go to: http://www.cotf.edu/ete/modules/msese/eart hsysflr/rock.html to read an overview of the rock cycle. On the worksheet titled: “Rock Cycle #1 answer the questions. You may work with your partner. http://www.cotf.edu/ete/modules/msese/eart hsysflr/rock.html When you are finished compare your question sheet with your partner.

Sedimentary Rocks Go to: http://www.fi.edu/fellows/payton/rocks/create/ind ex.html and click on Sedimentary Rocks. http://www.fi.edu/fellows/payton/rocks/create/ind ex.html Watch the show on how Sedimentary Rocks are formed. Complete the worksheet titled: “SM1”. Jot down any questions you may have on the back of your worksheet. Watch the show as many times as you would like. At the bottom of the Sedimentary Rocks page, there are some examples of different Sedimentary Rocks. Explore at least 2 of them. Complete the “Exploration” portion of your worksheet.

Igneous Rocks Navigate your way to the following website: http://www.fi.edu/fellows/payton/rocks/create/index.html Click on igneous rocks at the bottom of the page. Watch the show on how Igneous Rocks are formed. Complete the worksheet titled: “IR1” At the bottom of the page there are links to examples of Igneous Rocks. Choose at least two to explore. Complete the “Exploration” section at the bottom of your worksheet. Compare and discuss your exploration with your partner.
