2
Agenda 1. Take up homework 2. Exponent Laws a) Product rule b) Quotient rule c) Power of power rule 3. Practice
3
Learning Goal By the end of the lesson… … students will be able to multiply and divide powers with the same bases using the product, quotient and power of power rules, including those with negative or zero exponent outcomes
4
Curriculum Expectations Course – not applicable (prior review) Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations: The graduate is expected to be… a self-directed life long learner who CGE4f applies effective… problem solving… skills
5
Mathematical Process Expectations Problem solving – select, (and) apply… a variety of problem-solving strategies
6
Exponent Laws Product Rule – when multiplying powers with the same base, add the exponents and write the product as a single power Ex. (x 2 )(x 3 )
7
Exponent Laws Quotient Rule – when dividing powers with the same base, subtract the exponents and write the product as a single power Ex.
8
Exponent Laws Power of Power Rule – when you have a base with an exponent, all to another exponent, you keep the base and multiply the exponents Ex.
