What is the Lausanne Covenant? Written at the 1974 International Congress on World Evangelization More than just a statement of faith Theology and strategy of world evangelization Humility and repentance for past failures Commitment to the task of working together for world evangelization

Why is the Covenant Significant? Adopted by hundreds of organizations Connected evangelism with social responsibility, discipleship, and church renewal Increased awareness of the role of the two-thirds world church (the developing world which comprises two-thirds of the world population) Increased understanding of social, ideological, and spiritual struggles

Main speakers’ papers written in advance Short statement reflecting content of papers produced 2 or 3 months in advance Revised to reflect advisers’ comments Hundreds of comments received from participants during the 1974 Congress Revised by Drafting Committee during the Congress
