Definitions Cell Wall: A rigid layer of polysaccharides lying outside the plasma membrane of the cells of plants, fungi, and bacteria. Nuclear Membrane: The double membrane surrounding the nucleus within a cell.

Diagram of plant cell

Attributes of the Nuclear Membrane The double -layered membrane surrounding the nucleus of a eukaryotic cell, separating the nucleoplasm from the cytoplasm. All cells are covered by a cell membrane the job of a cell membrane is to keep the cytoplasm inside and allow nutrients in and waste products out. The nuclear membrane has to membranes each with a typical unit membrane structure. The space between the outer and inner membranes is also continuous with rough endoplasmic reticulum (ER)

Interesting Facts about the Nuclear Membrane  50% of all protein items found in a cell are in the membrane.  Cholesterol holds the membrane together.  The nuclear membrane is made of two layers  Membranes can fuse with other membranes  The nuclear membrane is also known as a nuclear envelopes, the perinuclear envelope, nuclelemma and the karotheka.

Attributes of a Cell Wall  Cell walls are made of cellulose they are a feature of a plant cell.  The cell wall is ridged and strong.  The fibers of a cell wall are laid down in different directions to add strength to the cell.  Cell walls contain other substances making a tough matrix. There is a “glue” between the cell walls of adjacent cells.  Cell walls work with the vacuole to make a cell turgid and to help support the plant.  The cell wall contains three layers the middle manella, the primary, and the secondary wall  The cell wall is only found in a plant cell

Interesting facts about the Cell Wall  When too much water enters or leaves the plant cell the cell wall can prevent the membrane from tearing.  the strength of billions of cell walls in a plant enable a tree to stand tall and its limbs to defy gravity.  Did You Know? When you are looking to dry hay or sticks you are seeing the cell walls of a dead plant cell  It prevents cells from bursting as it absorbs water  Allows plants to get tall, holds out thin leaves to obtain light.  Cell walls are important for products such as paper, wood fiber, shelter, and even roughage in our diet.
