13 Guideline #1 Be in your assigned seat and working on the assigned bell work when the tardy bell rings.

14 Mrs. Fretwell’s Literature Lounge Today’s Special August 10, 2009 Bellwork: “ If I could be principal for a day...” Objectives: Students will be able to understand the classroom policies and procedures.

15 Guideline #2 Bring ALL books and materials to class and take them with you when you leave.

16 Guideline #3 Follow directions the first time they are given.

17 Guideline #4 Treat each person in this room with respect and dignity.

18 Guideline #5 Follow all procedures and policies as outlined in the handbook.

19 Special Guideline This classroom is a “No Whining Zone”. That means that there will be no whining, for ANY reason. Everything that I do is in your best interest, so please…respect the “No Whining Zone” this semester.

23 Not Following Guidelines will result in: 1 st – Warning and documentation 2 nd _ 15 Minutes after school detention. 3 rd – Action Plan, Parental Contact, and 30 minute after school detention Fridays Only!! ***4 th – Disciplinary Referral

24 Severe Clause Any student who uses profanity, fights, damages school property (this includes the property of the teacher and other students), or is disrespectful (as defined by the teacher) will be sent to the office IMMEDIATELY.

27 When you are tardy Enter quietly Excused: Complete tardy form on my desk and attach note excusing your tardiness. Unexcused: Complete tardy form on my desk. Place the tardy form in the basket on my desk. Have a seat and take out your materials

28 After an excused absence Go to the homework box Retrieve any handouts Sign the notebook No make-up work for unexcused absences- if you have an Unex/Pending, make-up work will not be accepted until it is excused. All homework is on your calendar! Make-up tests: On Fridays only!!

36 Scheduled check out Please let me know as you enter the classroom. –I will be at the door Quietly raise your hand to get my attention Pack your materials and leave at the scheduled time If it is an emergency, quickly get my attention and I will assist you.

37 Turning in papers Place your paper on the desk next to you. – Left side If/When you receive a paper, place yours on top and continue passing the stack to your left I will come by and collect all stacks

38 Classroom Discussions PLEASE participate I want to hear what you have to say Make all questions and comments relevant to the current discussion If your question is off the topic, write it down and ask later.

39 Moving around the room You must ask permission Do not ask during a classroom discussion unless it is an emergency

40 Restroom visits I prefer you to go between classes, but in the case of an emergency, please wait for an appropriate time and raise your pencil quietly and without waving it. Continue to work until I tell you to go!!! You will be given 2 visits per 9 weeks. Not using them will result in 1 point added to your lowest test grade. DO NOT interrupt the class unnecessarily!!

41 If you need my attention: Wait for the teacher to finish speaking or is otherwise available. Raise your hand without waving. Get attention by using the expression, "Excuse me.“ Wait for the teacher to acknowledge you.

42 Class Dismissal The teacher dismisses you, not the bell Do not start packing up prior to the bell Wait until the teacher finishes and officially dismisses you with: “Have a nice day ”

43 “Special” Procedures These will be introduced on an “as needed” basis Library/Media Center Special guests Progress Reports Working Cooperatively Fire Drill Intercom Announcements Assemblies Substitute Teacher

44 Remember… Have an awesome year! Mrs. Fretwell I truly believe in your potential and I want you to believe in it too!

45 Library/Media Center Remain quiet in the hall. Turn left at the water fountain and follow the sidewalk unless directed otherwise. Enter Media Center quietly. Immediately have a seat and wait for instruction

46 Special Guests Always be respectful of others. Remain quiet during any presentation or disruption. Ask questions and participate in any discussions. Thank our guest for coming.

47 Progress Reports Will be sent home on a regular basis. Must be brought back the following day of class with a parent/guardian signature. First nine-weeks September 1 September 22 October 10 – Report Cards Second nine-weeks November 3 December 1 December 20– Last Day of School January 11- Report Cards

48 Working Cooperatively You are responsible for your own job and the results of the group. If you have a question, ask your teammates. Do not ask your teacher. You must be willing to help if a teammate asks for help. If no one can answer a question, agree on a single question and appoint one person to raise a hand for help from the teacher.

49 Fire Drill Quietly stand and move towards the door. Walk towards the gym and turn right. We must walk past the gym! Remain together while I call roll. Remain outside together until drill is over. Quietly walk back to the classroom and continue assignment.

50 Intercom Announcements Morning announcements- remain quiet during Character Education and announcements. Stand for the Pledge Other announcements- Immediately become quiet and listen to announcement. Once it is over, continue assignment.

51 Assemblies I will inform you of our seating arrangement prior to assembly. When dismissed, walk as a group to the auditorium. Sit in assigned seat. (I will call roll, so please sit down immediately.) Return quietly and continue assignments.

52 Substitute Teacher Exhibit all guidelines and procedures. Be respectful.
