58 National Park Service U.S. Department of the Interior Resource Information Management Division National Information Systems Center Office of the Chief Information Officer NPMap NPMap is an application, service catalog, and development framework that integrates services, both spatial and non-spatial, from all over the National Park Service (NPS) into a single application framework. The centralized system is developed and supported by the Resource Information Management Division and its partners to provide parks, regions, and programs with a way to present their data to their users, while also plugging them -- through a "conduit" (Enterprise GIS) -- into ongoing efforts/initiatives at both the NPS and Department of Interior levels. What makes NPMap different? The system abstracts the different components that most mapping applications use ( the map itself, basic navigation tools, etc.) away from more specialized components, making it possible for all of applications running in NPMap to use the same resources. This makes the overall experience better for all involved, including developers (fix a bug or add a feature in one place and have the improvement automatically rolled out to other applications), system administrators (setup a single hardware configuration that multiple applications can take advantage of), program leads/database administrators (plug your data into a single system and allow it to be accessed by multiple applications), and users (learn a single interface and use the knowledge repeatedly for other applications).
