1 HBD HV Control and Monitoring System NOW @ PHENIX Manuel Proissl HBD Meeting 12/09/2008

2 OUTLINE  Installation in PHENIX The completed procedure Mainframe Initialization  OUR HV Control Time To Talk: “What Do We Want?”  Forward/Reverse Bias  Trip (Peak) Current for GEMs & Mesh  P/T Correction Layers / Tables  Coming Up Voltage / Current Calibration Relay Boards, Cabling, MF testing, … HVCV2.0 Distribution Upgrades For Run9 | PHENIX, BNL HBD HV Control System HBD Meeting :: December 9 th, 2008 HBD HV Control & Monitoring System Manuel Proissl Page 2 of 6

3 INSTALLATION IN PHENIX  December 8 th, 2008 – 4PM EST :: HBD HV Control & Monitoring System successfully installed in PHENIX Due to the HBD Simulation Project, the installation process without big complications!  TS5 has been powered up and connected to the HBD mainframe on the bridge.  The mainframe rack which is shared with the RXNP guys, has been powered up.  ALL 6 Run9-modified 1471Ns, which have been crash tested and prepared for installation since last Thursday continuously day & night, were installed in the 1458HP mainframe.  ALL 40 channels (GEMs & Mesh chn) have been ramped up and measured via Fluke by controlling them one by one through the HV Control System, which was run on a laptop connected to the PHENIX wireless. The installation channel check procedure automatically ramped & disabled channel by channel after measurement. The channel check has been completely successful!!! 5 OUR HV CONTROL :: FAQ! How do we want the HBD to operate?  Operational & Standby Voltages  Forward & Reverse Bias: dV is set manually by user for key voltages  Trip Settings: GEMs (~165mkA?) and Mesh (~20mkA?)  HV Control will be connected to the P/T database (update every 2min) and can so adjust operational/standby voltages based on layers WE need to set automatically!  Questions? Ideas? Comments? Upgrades For Run9 | PHENIX, BNL HBD HV Control System HBD Meeting :: December 9 th, 2008 HBD HV Control & Monitoring System Manuel Proissl Page 5 of 6

6 COMING UP  Correction Curves for 1471N Calibration: this week!  Relay Board Trip tests in the hall  Simulating the HBD with load channel by channel  Distribution / Installation Files for Linux & XP/Vista Platform independence Final installation files with Installation Wizard Expected Date Online: January 2 nd, 2009 HBD HV Control & Monitoring System Manuel Proissl Page 6 of 6 Upgrades For Run9 | PHENIX, BNL HBD HV Control System HBD Meeting :: December 9 th, 2008
