CAUSES OF DEFORESTATION Agriculture and Cattle-Raising Dams Buildings/ Mega projects Mining Oil and Gas
12
CATTLE
13
Why Cattle? Food companies such as McDonald's uses forests to find more space to raise cattle and crops. The more land they clear, the more profit.
15
Costa Rica, which is one of the countries with the worse deforestation rate in the world, is home to millions of cattle
16
Cattle pasture land in Honduras takes up over 40 percent of the country's fertile land.
17
Dams
18
Dams are built to change water flows. Forests are cleared to make man made irrigation leading towards more inhabited regions.
20
Building and Construction
21
Forest are not only being cut for building material, but for extra space as well.
22
Oil Mining
23
In places such as Canada and Middle America (Costa Rico, Venezuela, Panama) forest are cleared in spots that are suspected of holding oil underground.
24
EFFECTS
25
Temperature Increase
26
Animal Extinction
27
Other Effects Drain on national resources Landslides and floods Unworkable Soil
28
What Can We Do?
29
Tips -Reforestation -Rotate Crops -Support Farmers From States -Recycle Paper
