Mobile Phone authorised Object Services Alternative: User Equipment initiated/authenticated/ realised Services Hans-Christian Haugli, Elin Melby, Josef Noll Replace Mobile Phone by User Equipment? – It’s not only Object Services, but all services

update 26.1.2006 (initial 15.12.2005) 2 System view Object Identifier Object User centric services Object centric services User Equipment Principle mode of operation Object Identifier 2 Object 2 Alternative mode of operation User Equipment 2 After discussion 26.1.2006: Only one service set (

update 26.1.2006 (initial 15.12.2005) 3 UPDATE: System view Object Identifier Object Services, Object centric, User centric or a combination of both services User Equipment Principle mode of operation Object Identifier 2 Object 2 Alternative mode of operation User Equipment 2 After discussion 26.1.2006: Only one service set (

update 26.1.2006 (initial 15.12.2005) 4 User Equipments - details l The User equipment (UE) initiates the communication between the user and the object l UE includes NFC characteristics and includes –Reader –ID –Communication capabilities l UE communicates with Services (S), Object Identifier (OI), Object (O) or other UE’s/OI’s/O’s l Example of an UE is a mobile phone, but could also be any other communication devices User Equipment

update 26.1.2006 (initial 15.12.2005) 5 User Equipment - signalling l 1: User equipment (UE) initiates object identification using simply ID or encrypted key l 2: Object Identifier (OI) provides ID and object communication capabilities l 3,4: UE requests communication, Object (O) acknowledge Object Identifier (OI) Object (O) Services (S) 1 initiates 2 provides ID 5b service request 6b service provision 6a object service provision 7a object information provision 8 alternative services UE2 3 communication request 4 communication acknowledgement l 5a,b: Initiation of service request from O (a) and/or UE (b) to either user centric or object centric services l 6a,b: Service provision to UE (b) or O (a) l 7a,b: Provisioning of object information to be utilised in potential service l 8: Direct communication with other UE’s/OI’s/O’s (alternative mode of operation) 5a object service request 7b information provision User Equipment (UE) OI2 O2

update 26.1.2006 (initial 15.12.2005) 6 Object Identifier – detailed specifications l The Object Identifier (OI) carries the ID and the communication capabilities of the Object (O) l OI includes NFC characteristics l OI communicates with the User Equipment (UE) l OI might initiate service invocation l --- also covered l OI might be intelligent (a transducer) l OI might also communicate with the Object Object Identifier

update 26.1.2006 (initial 15.12.2005) 7 Object Identifier – signalling Object Identifier UEOI 1 initiates 2 provides ID and communication capabilities l 1: User equipment (UE) initiates object identification using simply ID or encrypted key l 2: Object Identifier (OI) provides ID and object communication capabilities

update 26.1.2006 (initial 15.12.2005) 8 Object – detailed specifications l The Object (O) is equipment or devices which the user takes contact with l Services can be provided to the Object or it can provide information to external services l The Object communicates with user equipment, user centric or object centric services and other objects l Examples of such objects are: home equipment, cars, bus stops Object

update 26.1.2006 (initial 15.12.2005) 9 Object - signalling l Steps 1,2 provide authentication and exchange of communication capabilities of the object (not shown) l 3,4: User Equipment (UE) requests communication, Object (O) acknowledge l 5a: O initiates service request through UE based on agreed communication capabilities. Communication either to user or object centric services. 5b: Service request from UE to Service (S) (not shown) l 5c: Direct service request from O to S (alternative mode of operation) Object Identifier (OI) Object (O) Services (S) 6a object service provision 7a object information provision 3 communication request 4 communication acknowledgement l 6a: Results from service request. The service can be provided from S to O via UE (6b, not shown). l 6c: Direct service provision from S to O (alternative mode of operation) l 7a: Provision of object information to be utilised in potential service. The information is forwarded from UE to S (7b, not shown). l 7c: Direct information provision from O to S (alternative mode of operation) l 9: Communication to alternative objects 5a object service request User Equipment (UE) O2 5c alternative object service request 6c alternative object service provision 7c alternative object information provision 9 alternative services

update 26.1.2006 (initial 15.12.2005) 10 Object or User oriented Services – detailed specifications l Services are initiated by the User Equipment, based on information from the Object Identifier and/or Object. Services might also be initiated by the Object l Two types of services: Object centric and user centric services. l User centric services are to be utilised by the user, and assisted either by object information or object related facilities, e.g. travel information based on the location of a car and/or shown in the navigation system of a car l Object centric services are related to how the object can be operated, remote management control and diagnostics, etc. User centric services Object centric services Services User centric, object centric or a combination of both

update 26.1.2006 (initial 15.12.2005) 11 Object or User centric Services – signalling l Steps 1-4 provide authentication, exchange of communication capabilities, and set-up of communication between User Equipment (UE) and Object (O) (not shown) l 5b: Initiation of service request from UE to either user centric or object centric services. The service request can originate at O (5a, not shown) and be forwarded by EU l 5c: Direct service request from O to S (alternative mode of operation) Object Identifier (OI) Object (O) Services (S) 5b service request 6b service provision UE2 l 6b: Service provision to UE. The service can be forwarded to O (6a, not shown) l 6c: Direct service provision from S to O (alternative mode of operation) l 7b: Provisioning of object information to be utilised in potential service. The information originate at O and is provided via UE from O to S (7a, not shown). l 7c: Direct information provision from O to S (alternative mode of operation) l 10: Communication to alternative UE’s/O’s 7b information provision User Equipment (UE) O2 5c alternative object service request 6c alternative object service provision 7c alternative object information provision 10 alternative services

update 26.1.2006 (initial 15.12.2005) 12 Examples of objects l home equipment l car l bus station or bus (or other means of public transportation)

update 26.1.2006 (initial 15.12.2005) 13 Service ideas - Car l Travel information –Dynamic navigation updates according to changing traffic situation –Weather and road conditions –Prevailing traffic regulations, tolls, controls –Expected travel times l Yellow pages/points of interest –Adds/Information E.g.. find nearest free parking, reserve the parking, pay for the parking l “Alco lock” – the car cannot be started before a negative alco-test is performed, e.g. passed attention test l Personalised entertainment (infotainment) –for driver –for passengers l Key –Access - central lock –Time limited Authentication control –Ignition control & demobilizer l Automatic collection and delivery of data from car sensors –Weather and road conditions, interface to CALM-bus –Traffic information, accident warning etc. l Remote diagnostics and CRM –Remote diagnostics and management control (SW-download) –Allocate nearest (best purpose) service unit –Allocate courtesy/rental car –Call car owner to service garage –Reminders on service appointments l Personalised adjustments of seat and mirror settings l Improved eCall – knowledge of who and how many people are in the car l Electronic Toll Collect user centricobject centric

update 26.1.2006 (initial 15.12.2005) 14 Service ideas – Commercial vehicles l Driver log book –information about type of trip, distance, time, etc. is loged l Freight information (location, condition, danger, etc.) l Fleet management l Vehicle log book –information about fuel consumption, average speed, etc. is loged user centric object centric Typically, the same services as for cars will also apply to commercial vehicles

update 26.1.2006 (initial 15.12.2005) 15 Service ideas - Public transportation (station or on-board) l Automatic ticket ordering and payment l Dynamic timetable information specified by route of interest l Vehicle management –Allocating needed vehicles in busy hours due to demand user centric object centric
