2  Charitable giving to the DMC is essential to help us:  Invest in new programs, services, equipment and research  Maintain quality facilities  Provide quality care to our patients  Improve the health of our community

3  Development (fundraising) staff at corporate and each of our hospitals are responsible for raising funds for equipment, programs and construction projects at the DMC.  In order for DMC to be successful in fundraising, physicians and employees need to be knowledgeable of, and actively support, development activities.

4 Physicians and employees can help raise funds for DMC hospitals by: 1. Giving to the annual employee campaign and to capital campaigns; and to capital campaigns; 2. Attending or volunteering at DMC fundraising events; events; 3. 5 Grateful patients are key to successful fundraising: The Advisory Board research indicates that grateful patient programs are one of the most effective tools in healthcare fundraising.

6 Why do patients give? 1. They believe in the mission of the hospital; 2. They want to show gratitude to the hospital, physician, or staff; or staff; 3. They want to make a difference in their community; 4. They share a vision for future human needs; 5. It meets their own psychological needs; 6. They are asked to give.

7 Question: What is one of the easiest ways for you to help us raise money for your hospital and their programs? Answer: By meeting with your hospital’s Chief Development Officer to discuss grateful patients and other ways you can make a lasting gift to the hospital.

8 Confidentiality:  We are HIPAA compliant – all patients are provided a patient privacy consent form prior to admission that includes a statement that they may be contacted for purposes of fundraising.  Also, all fundraising communications to patients (written and e-mail) have an ‘opt out’ option from receiving these types of materials.
