Unknown #2 Physical Property experiment: We believe as a group that unknown #2 is ammonia We are using density to test our assumption. The known density of ammonia is 0.73 kg/m³. We found our unknown had a mass of 32.32g we measured about 30mL Using the formula D = M/V we got the answer 0.93 g/mL which is similar to the known value. Density is an intensive property.
3
Unknown #2 3 physical properties we observed: 1. Strong unpleasant odor (intensive) 2. Has a clear color (intensive) 3. Low viscosity (intensive) Ammonia is a pure substance. Ammonia is a pure substance.
4
Unknown #2 Chemical property: If you mix ammonia gas with hydrochloric acid it will create a chemical reaction which results in smoke. This is a link that shows this chemical reaction: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7eUA9L dfv8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7eUA9L dfv8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7eUA9L dfv8

Unknown #19 Physical property experiment: We as a group agree that unknown #19 is copper. We are using buoyancy to test if we are correct. It is known that copper does not float. We tested this by putting the copper in a measuring cup and observing what happened, as expected the metal sank. Buoyancy is an intensive property. 3 Physical properties we observed of unknown #19: 1.Easy to bend and flexible (intensive) 2.Copper coloring (intensive) 3.Has the appearance of a metal (intensive) Copper is a pure substance.
6
Unknown #19 Chemical property: If you put copper into an active flame, the flame will turn green which is a result of the copper burning. Below is a link to show this chemical process: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcNqwiY_Sco http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcNqwiY_Sco

Unknown #6 Physical property test: We as a group made an assumption that unknown #6 was a mixture of soap and water. We will test to see if we are correct by observation of viscosity of unknown substance #6 compared to water. It is known that water and soap have low viscosity. Viscosity is an intensive property.
8
Unknown #6 3 Physical properties we observed of unknown #6: 1.White/cream colored (intensive) 2.Smells like soap (intensive) 3.Low viscosity (intensive) Unknown #6 is a mixture.

Unknown #6 Chemical property: Soap and water should boil just like regular water would. Below is a link to a video to show this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gey4mmrG9cc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gey4mmrG9cc

Unknown #5 Physical property experiment: We agree as a group that unknown #5 is water. We are using density to see if we are correct. The known density of water is 1,000.00 kg/m³ The known density of water is 1,000.00 kg/m³ The mass of unknown #5 is 13.2g and we measured 12.9mL Using the formula formula D = M/V we got the answer 0.98g/mL which is extremely close to the known value of water. Density is an intensive property. 3 Physical properties we observed of unknown #5: 1.Clear color (intensive) 2.Low viscosity (intensive) 3.No odor (intensive) Water is a pure substance.

Unknown #5 Chemical property: If water comes into contact with the metal iron it will cause a chemical reaction known as rust. Below is a video explaining this chemical reaction: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cn_Vom--b4A http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cn_Vom--b4A

Unknown #13 Physical property experiment: We agree as a group that unknown #13 is salt. We are testing to see if we are correct by using solubility. We put unknown #13 in a measuring cup of water to see if it would dissolve, as we expected it did. Solubility is an intensive property. 3 Physical properties we observed of unknown #13: 1.Grainy texture (intensive) 2.No odor (intensive) 3.White coloring (intensive) Salt is a pure substance.
13
Unknown #13 Chemical property: If you mix salt and coca cola a small eruption will occur and will fizz up. Below is a link to show this chemical reaction: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-e_BsxHwzcM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-e_BsxHwzcM
