Wanted a steel that could handle the weight of new artillery shells. Invented the steel process in 1854 during the Crimean War for Napoleon. British war department was not interested in his idea. Patented his process in 1856 in England. Bessemer Process

Importance Important for making weapons that produced higher temperatures. This process is not used today, but allowed us to come up with a more efficient process for producing high-grade steel.
